It’s about time I gave you another old mix isn’t it?
My bandwidth may be taking a battering with my podcast show but I know that you all like the old mixes.

Here is a CD mix I did back in the winter of 1997 called “Post Modern Sleaze”. It’s named after the song of the same name by The Sneaker Pimps. As anyone who has heard me DJ will know, the Matthew Roberts (aka Phunk Force who now records as King Unique) mix is a classic that I often play. Enjoy the mix and let me know what you think.

Tracklisting:

  1. Hoof – Detroit
  2. Sneaker Pimps – Post Modern Sleaze (The Phunk Force Mix)
  3. De’Lacey – Hideaway (187 Lockdown Mix)
  4. 187 Lockdown – Gunman
  5. DJ Supreme vs Rhythm Masters – Enter The Scene (Klubheads Mix)
  6. Urban Shakedown – Some Justice
  7. Jimmy Ray – Are You Jimmy Ray? (Lisa Marie Experience Mix)
  8. Wildchild – Renegade Master (Fatboy Slim New Skool Mix)
  9. TBA – Never Give Up On
  10. Laguna – Spiller From Rio (+ accapella of Fatima Rainey “Love is a Wonderful Thing”)
  11. Kinane – Business (K-Klass Club Mix)
  12. Sybil – Why? (Mark’s Non-Stop Dub)

Oh and Happy Halloween too! Next year I’ll have to make a spooky mix for it!

News : More about the podcast

 Monday, October 31st 2005, 2:00 pm

Firstly, a big thank you to all of the people that have been downloading the podcast. I’ve had around 300 people dowloading the show at the moment and that’s with almost no promotion on my part. Word of mouth seems to have spread and I’ve got people in Scotland, England, Germany, Holland, Poland, USA and South Africa downloading and listening to the show. I hope you’re all enjoying the sounds of a UK house music DJ.

I just thought I had better answer a few questions that people have had about the podcast and where I’m going with it.

Why do you do a show every two weeks instead of every week?
The main problem I am having at the moment is bandwidth. I didn’t think that the show would be as popular as it has become and I only imagine it getting more popular as it filters onto the various podcast networks. The second reason is time! It takes me about 2 hours to set up the show and then record it. I then spend another couple of hours producing it to make it sound good for you. That’s normally two evenings of work for me in between the other stuff I need to get done so I don’t think I’d find the time to make one every week. Maybe if I give up my day job then I might do more for you!

I download the show in iTunes but it doesn’t have the proper tags and images. Can we have them please?
Your wish is my command. The next show should have the correct iTunes tags and images in the RSS feed. Let me know if it doesn’t or you don’t see the images.

Can you play me a song or give me a shout out?
Of course I can. I like talking to people. I’m not the sort of arrogant DJ who doesn’t talk to people who come to hear me DJ. Get in touch via the contact page or using the email address I give in the podcast show.

What do you do about copyright of the songs? Why do you have so many voiceovers during the songs?
These two questions are related. Copyright is a very grey area due to the fact that people are downloading the show all around the world. Song clearance is currently done on a country by country basis e.g. USA has the RIAA, UK has the BMI, Germany has GEMA etc. I don’t currently clear the songs that I play as I believe that I am helping to promote the artists tracks that I play. I always put links to their websites and to legal download sites and records shops. I also record the show as a 96 kbps MP3 and play voiceovers during the records. This is to stop any naughty people from downloading the show and ripping the tracks out of them to play. Hopefully I stop people from doing this. If you feel that I have in anyway infringed your copyright then get in touch and I’ll remove the offending tracks.

I really love the song “insert song name here” that is featured in your chart. Why don’t you share it on your site?
See the previous question about copyright! 😉

Where can I buy the tracks that you put on the show?
The tracks that I play are mostly promotional tracks or white labels. Many tunes are sent to me but I also buy a lot of new records every week. If you want good music to continue to be made then you need to buy some fresh music too! The places I use are in my links section. Try Juno or Plastic Fantastic if you want up-front vinyl promos. Or if you want some old tunes then try First Rhythm Records or Hard To Find Records. If digital downloads are your thing then I’d go for Trax Source, Beatport or DJ Download. All of them have seriously upfront promos if you need them.

So there you go. I hope that has answered some of your questions. If it hasn’t then drop me an email and I’ll do my best to answer it.

News : Website is alive…

 Wednesday, October 19th 2005, 2:28 pm

Up until about two hours ago I was still getting problems with the database but hopefully it’s all sorted now. I had a discussion with my webhost and they found a few problems that could have been causing it.

However, if you do find that my website has no data on it and some error messages at the top then can you please, please contact me so I can sort it out! If it continues then I’m going to move webhost but hopefully I won’t need to!
