News : Miami WMC hot tracks

 Wednesday, March 22nd 2006, 1:00 pm

Sadly I’m not at the Miami Winter Music Conference (WMC) this year but for those that don’t know it’s one of the biggest events on the dance music calendar. It’s a five day conference comprising of club nights, seminars, panels, workshops and exhibits on all aspects of dance music. DJs spin tunes by the pool and pass on promo CDs and 12″ records (or maybe just email each other MP3s this year!). It’s where all of the buzz for the hottest summer tunes is created and the biggest tunes get signed for massive advances.

So I thought I’d give you a list of the hottest tunes out there that I think will be doing the business for the big DJs at this years WMC. Some of them are big hitters for me and hopefully you’ll be able to pick them up from your favourite record shop, online shop or legal download site soon. On with the list then…

  • Ben Macklin – Feel Together (Original Dub) – Serial Recordings – Ben is one half of the Sucker DJs who had a massive hit a couple of years back with “It’s Gotta Be” on Azuli. This new tune is a massive disco sampling monster with a dirty bassline. It’s being hammered by Pete Tong, Annie Mac and all of the top DJs. I’ve been trying to get hold of this for the past month and can’t find a copy anywhere!
  • ATFC – Return Of The Vigilante – CR2Onephatdeeva head honcho Aydin The Funki Chilli aka ATFC returns with another dancefloor smash from his “The Vermicious Knids EP”. Sampling a great disco tune it feels like a return to the 90s disco-sampling house music. A classic style with classy production. It’s definitely funking my dancefloors.
  • Dennis Christopher – Soulshakin – Confidence Recordings – A top Dutch producer (I think) who signed to Spinnin’ Records early last year and has released his first track on Spinnin’s new imprint Confidence. His remixes are always fantastic and he is fast gaining a similar reputation to Ian Carey for reliable, funky house mixes. This track shows that he’s no one-hit wonder and shows off his quality production skills.
  • Kid Creme feat Bashiyra – The Game – Illegal Beats – Kid Creme hasn’t released anything for a while but he’s back on form with this monster. A different production style from his old stuff but it still has a kicking bassline and interesting synths in the background.
  • Crazy P – Sun Science – Shiva – I mentioned the Crazy P album in an earlier post so I hope you have all picked it up and have heard this tune already. This is one of the standout tracks of the album and should be massive for Crazy P. It’s a cross between Jamiroquai funk and Grant Nelson style US garage. A real summer tune which should rock the swimming pools of Miami this weekend and the terraces of Ibiza in the summer.
  • Coldcut – True Skool (Switch Remix) – Ninja Tune – I’ll play this bad boy for you on a future podcast as I’ve just picked it up. Dark and dirty mix from Switch on this killer track featuring, in my opinion, the best UK rapper Roots Manuva. If you like your house music darker then you’ll love this one. You might remember Switch from his awesome “A Bit Patchy” track. He’s a quality breaks producer and this remix shows he’s not slowing down.
  • Soul Avengerz – Sing – Soda / Positiva – You might remember me playing this a while ago on episode #3 of my podcast. A classic vocal tune which has been signed to Positiva and will feature new mixes from Bobby Blanco.
  • Flanders – By My Side – Gusto – Is this the Spiller “Groovejet” of this years conference? More than likely. I imagine a bidding war is happening behind the scenes for this hot disco tune.
  • Olav Basoski & Alex Romano – Roll Da Dice – Rootz Records – I’ve not heard this yet but I read that it will be released soon. It has to be a massive track if those two hot Dutch producers are involved! They are releasing another tune called “No One” at some point in the future too and that is going to be huge. It’s a massive 70s Philly soul sampling classic and I am desperate to pick that up too!

If you have heard a hot track which I haven’t posted about then add a comment below. I’m always looking for good new tunes to play.

  1. Crazy P’s song is absolutely wicked, although I love most of the whole album anyway, highly recommended from me (too). 😉
