News : More great music podcasts
Every few months I need to spice up the music on my iPod so I like to go searching for more music shows that will brighten up my day. Here are a few of the new ones that I’ve found over the past couple of months that you’ll probably like too.
Ninja Tunes is an eclectic label out of the UK. It was formed in 1990 by Coldcut and over the years they’ve released loads of great trip-hop (when the genre existed!), hip-hop, drum and bass, funk and soul. You name it and they’ve probably released it! The Solid Steel podcast is a weekly, hour long show of the funkiest tunes you’re like to come across.
Dance Department is an awesome Dutch podcast which features mixes and tunes from some of the finest dance DJs. It’s a mix of trance, techno and house and it’s definitely worth a listen.
Beatport is a great legal dance music download site and they have a bi-monthly show which features some of the newest tunes on there site. It’s a great podcast which showcases some new tunes which you might want to pick up at their store.
Sascha is a funky house DJ from Germany and his mixes give you an hour of the funkiest house music. He has a very similar music taste to me so if you enjoy my shows then make sure you give his podcast a try.
I love hip-hop but not the new sounds of 50 Cent and the like. I’m an old school hip-hopper! So if you’re after phat and funky breaks, funk, soul and hip-hop then check out the Stone Throw podcast. Peanut Butter Wolf and friends throw down the funkiest beats and rhymes on this show and it features some of their major artists like Madlib, J Dilla and Aloe Blacc. I’m loving this show!
If you like your music tougher then check out the Elektrotherapy podcast. It’s a bi-weekly house and electro podcast show that is run by John Kennedy and DJ Kristoff. It’s generally tough and techy but that might be what you need after my funkier podcasts. It often features great guests like D Ramirez, DJ Shield and Francois Dubois. Get it downloaded now!
