Well this one took a long time didn’t it? Two months to get the podcast online is far too long I know but life has been a bit crazy at the moment. Our baby is due in just 6 days time so I’ve been busy preparing our house ready for our new arrival and we can’t wait to see if we’re having a boy or a girl. I’ll introduce you all to the mini-Cruze once he or she appears!

So it’s better late than never as they say. I’ve got another hour (…well, almost) of funky house music and electro house for your listening pleasure. Of course no podcast would be complete without the obligatory Cruze Classic and this one is massive. Liquid’s “Sweet Harmony” has always had a place in my heart and I can’t believe it has taken 31 episodes and nearly two years of the podcast to get it in the show. Want to remix a classic disco track?

One of the best dance music download sites, Traxsource, is running a competition in which you get to remix the classic disco track “Let’s Go Dancin’” by Sparque. It’s a classic track from 1981 featuring bumping disco drums and quality female vocals and was apparently a classic for Mr Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage.

You can find the lead and background vocal samples here so get downloading them now if you want to enter. The competition closes on 31st May 2007 so you’d better get your remixes done quickly. Or perhaps, like me, you haven’t got the time at the moment but you could use the acapellas in the future. I’d like to do a 2007 funky remix of it but it’ll have to wait for now. I still haven’t finished the track I’m doing with my man Amrick yet but hopefully it’ll arrive before the baby is born!

Sometimes I get sent tunes that I am really excited about opening and this week I couldn’t wait to have a listen to a new remix of The Rock Steady Crew’s “Hey You”. Now some of you might not remember it the first time round as it came out in 1983. It’s one of the earliest electro tunes that hit the UK charts so it kick started a love of hip-hop, electro and all things electronic for myself and my brother. Obviously it holds fond memories so I couldn’t wait to hear what this new version was like.

It has been “remixed” (strictly speaking I’d call it more of a “dj edit” as it stays quite true to the original rather than being a remix) and it has been done by Jay C and will be coming out on Nebula Records. Now to my well tuned ears it looks like he’s just added a Mr. Magic style synth (think “Magic’s Wand” from the 80s!) in the background and added some phatter beats in the background. I have to say that I’m really not feeling it at all. Have a listen and see what you guys think. I can never see the point of these sort of “remixes” that add very little to the original track. The original was a fantastic track and of its time so why spoil a great tune? Sorry if you’re reading this Jay C!

Also included in the remix package are mixes from Friendly, Martin Ten Velden and Beatfreakz (aka Dennis Christopher and Mark Simmons). Martin Ten Velden turns it into a dark and dirty tech house tune if that’s your thing. It’s a bit too deep and dark for my floors but I’m sure some of you guys will love it. Christopher and Simmons use their more commercial Beatfreakz guise to give us a cheeky hip-house version with their trademark compressed synth pads. As much as I love these guys it borders too much on the commercial side of house music for me and sounds like something they’d play in the Ritzy type clubs. Friendly finishes the package off with one of his breakbeat house mixes with plenty of filtering and cut up vocals but it doesn’t really do the business for my chunky house music dancefloors.

All in all it’s a pretty disappointing set of remixes of a classic track. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Apologies once again for my disappearance from the website. It’s been a tough few weeks with so much stress you wouldn’t believe. Unfortunately I had my house broken into and although at first it only seemed like they stole my flat screen television, they returned a few nights later to steal my car. They took the my spare keys when they broke in and I didn’t notice. The cheeky little b*stards had the nerve to come back to the house while we were in to steal the car.

As you can imagine I’ve spent the last couple of weeks gathering documents together, filling in insurance forms and generally feeling a bit down about the whole thing. Thankfully my car has now turned up and it looks like it isn’t too badly damaged but it’s not what you need when you’ve got a baby on the way in under 5 weeks. I’m sure it’ll all get sorted it out soon.

So that’s why there has been no new podcast, no new mixes and no posts on the website. I just didn’t have the time or the energy to do it but I’m back once again like a renegade master! I’m looking to get a new podcast done over the weekend and hopefully a new mix too. And talking of mixes I’ve just added an RSS feed for the mixes so they will automatically download in iTunes or your favourite podcatcher if you subscribe to it. You’ll find it here. I’ll add the various remixes and productions that I’m doing to this feed to so if you’re a DJ, or just a fan, then make sure that you subscribe to it. I’ll also update the subcription page at some point soon to point to all of the feeds that are available from me.
