News : Tunes of the week

Better late than never we have my big tunes of the week.

Timbaland – The Way I Are (Zya & Bada Mix) – White Label
Alex Gaudino
Yes I know it’s Timbaland. Yes, I know it’s “commercial”. Yes, I know it came out a while ago. But have you heard this electro version from two youngsters called Zya & Bada? It caused all sorts of confusion for the guys when Beatport accidentally mislabeled the remix as being an Axwell production. People accused them of trying to ride his wave but it seems to be a simple mistake. Ignoring the controversy they give us a nice dirty house version of the Timbaland tune. It’s got a pumping electro bassline, some nice arpeggiated synths and some 80s pads. It’s a rocking track so see if you can pick it up from somewhere.

Alex Gaudino – Que Pasa Contigo (Extended Mix) – Rise
Alex Gaudino
Alex Gaudino is back after his cheeky Destination Calabria bootleg with a summer soaked funky house anthem. It’s a fine slice of balearic house music on the cut-up disco tip. Featuring vocals from the gorgeous Sam Obernick who sang on Tim Deluxe’s “Just Won’t Do”, it’s got a funky, filtered chanting sample in the background and some nice warm electric piano – perfect for those post-summer evenings. The only thing which may put you off is the Bob Sinclar style whistling that comes in half way through. I’m not sure if I like it or not but it doesn’t detract too much from this wicked tune.

Ali Love – Late Night Session (Supafly Remix) – Sony BMG
Ali Love - Late Night Session
Ali Love is a relatively unknown London lad who had just released this hot new track “Late Night Session”. In his own words it is “an irresistible slice of disco, funk and pop with Ali Love inviting the world back to his flat for an after hours session of dancing and romancing amongst the neon lights and street fights.” The two hot mixes in the package are from Supafly and Paul Epworth aka Phones. Supafly bring us a chunky 80s house vibe in s Seamus Haji stylee. This is peak time funky house music and it rocks! Phones gives us his Filter Francais Remix which sounds like it could have come straight out of the hands of the hands of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo or Thomas Bangalter. Plenty of cut-up disco, plenty of filtering, plenty of bitcrushing and lots of compression. What more do you want? An storming remix as always from Mr. Epworth.

Ian Carey – Redlight – GFAB
Ian Carey
Ian Carey is back with another killer track on his GFAB record label. He’s gone for the dirty house angle on this track and it’s a 2am dancefloor destroyer. A simple but effective bassline combined with a reverb tinged square wave lead works helps this to pump along. Added into the mix are the gorgeous vocals, some classic Carey drums and you’ve got another big hit for the producer du jour. Lovely!
