Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream (Funkfinders Discoid Remix)

Every now and again I come across a song which really moves me. So I was trawling through the music news on the internet last month and I came across an awesome new tune by Empire Of The Sun called “Walking On A Dream”. It’s a collaboration between Nick Littlemore (no relation to me!) from the awesome Australian band Pnau and Luke Steele from another great Australian band The Sleepy Jackson. It had a cool 80s vibe about it and I just couldn’t get the chorus out of my head. As I had been listening to a lot of French filtered house tracks and remixes I started thinking what a great house track it would make if it was looped up and played around with. So I started doing it.

Here you’ll find the Funkfinders Discoid remix of Walking On A Dream. I’ve tried to take it in a Fred Falke direction with funky bass, 80s FM synthesis and some layered electric piano along with some chunky but funky drums. The Empire Of The Sun vocals filter in and out nicely and hopefully you’ll find it rocks your dancefloors. Let me know how it went down if you play it in your DJ sets.

UPDATE: There seems to be some audio glitches with this version. So I’ve removed the download link for now. Will fix it later today (6th November 2008).

UPDATE 2 (21:28, 6th November 2008): I’ve uploaded a new version and checked it out and it seems fine. Please let me know in the comments if you have any more problems. I’ve also done an edit of it so it’s a little bit shorted but it works better.

    I remember hearing this on your podcast a while ago, and I’m downloading now. When I’ve used it in a set, I’ll let you know how it sounded.

    BTW, a bit of a sidenote, but I thought you might want to know about this. I work for a Haven holiday park. I don’t reveal which one, but you might want to know that your remix of “Maneater” by Nelly Furtado has somehow got onto their playlists. God knows how. I heard them play it at a disco last Saturday night.

    cause we’re moving into a new flat at 1st of december. also i started studying psycholgy at october .. a lot to to ;)

    Buuut, when we’re moved, than i’ll spend again more time to produce new tracks. hehe

    It doesn’t need editing, believe me. I think the track is extremely flexible at the moment – I’d leave it as it is. However, I’ve noticed one problem. I don’t know if anyone else has this, but at around 1m53s through the track, it skips for some reason. Maybe there’s a problem with the version you uploaded – I don’t know?

    @Poison Monkey: I still think it’s a bit too long. Doesn’t really go anywhere at the end so could do with cutting down to about 7 minutes.

    Sorry, didn’t realise there was a problem. Will check it out today and re-post a new version.

    Thanks mate. Didn’t edit it too much but it came in at 9 minutes and there are a few sections that plod on a bit too long and don’t do much!

    great work pal. great baseline. Not sure how I feel about the sync drum roll. Sounds a bit cheap. Not having heard the actual original I have no idea how much you have used. Does the band know you have done this?

    Thanks mate. I don’t think the tom-roll sounds cheap myself but each to their own.

    No, the band don’t know I’ve done it. It was just a bootleg mix as I loved the track and thought it’d work as a house track.
