DJ Cruze Podcast - Episode #53 - July 2009

It’s been a busy month for me at DJ Cruze towers and episode #53 of the DJ Cruze month just misses July 2009 by a couple of days. Apologies for this episode being a bit late. I’ve had to contend with a house move, and hence very little free time while we unpack, and a lack of internet connection! But we’re finally in our new house and things are starting to settle down so it’s time for another selection of hot house tunes, promotional tracks from some hot house producers and plenty of chunky electro house beats. I’ve made this podcast a bit longer to try and make up for the delay.

So what have I got in store for you this month? Well, kicking off the show we’ve got a new promo mix of Calvin Harris’ new track “Ready For The Weekend”. Dave Spoon takes it out on a dirty breakbeat journey and I’ve been loving this track. Next up for we’ve got a hot promo from Funkstar Deluxe which came from my good friends over at Supratron in Germany. A wicked progressive / electro house track which is working for me.

We’ve also got some killer latin house collaborations from legendary house DJ Graeme Park and Nick Hussey and hot house producers Chris Lake and Lys. I’m loving their percussion driven piano and horn tracks “Samba Party” and “La Tromba”. Wolfgang Gartner is a producer who is featuring in almost every podcast and this month he’s given us a hot rework of MSTRKRFT’s “Heartbreaker”. Following that we’ve got a fantastic remix of the new Basement Jaxx track “Raindrops” by Funkagenda and Paul Thomas. Check out the wicked breakdown and vocoded vocals!

Australia’s TV Rock give us a hot house tune “In The Air” which Axwell has remixed into a tune which should have been called “Hands In The Air”!! An awesome remix as always by the hard-working Swede. I then threw a couple of old school sounding house tunes in the mix as I’m really enjoying the old piano tracks. First up is the new track from Benny Royal who takes us on an old school piano journey with “Pada Papaya”. Then we’ve got a hot new track from Barcelona’s The Requesters and their track “Chrisis”. A new school version of an old school rave track with cut-up pianos and old school samples. I love the bassline on it too! Awesome!

To end this month’s show I’ve gone a bit more pumping with a deep and dirty electro house track from Robbie Rivera. I love the horns and spoken word vocal on his track “Move Move”. After that is a cheeky reworking of Baby D’s “Let Me Be Your Fantasy”. He’s turned the old breakbeat track into a pumping electro house monster. Up next is the new release on Seamus Haji’s Big Love label called “I’ve Been Looking”. As always Seamus Haji turns out a fantastic track with a killer progressive house remix from French producer Romain Curtis.

There was only one artist that I could choose for this month’s Cruze classic after the sad passing of Michael Jackson back in June 2009. I’ve always been a fan of his music and the house remix of “Smooth Criminal” by Brothers In Rhythm was always a huge track for me back in the day. Plenty of funky drums, police sirens and the massive bassline and vocals help this to be a great remix. Enjoy!

I hope you like the tracks on this month’s show and don’t forget to comment below and tell me what you think of them.

  1. Dear Jesus, thank God! here we is (lol). The new podcast is in, and, its just rock’n madd hard. Yo, believe me, i play this podcast with pride. I have moved to a new space were the demograph plays one genre of music. Time to show these sucka’s that the other genre has fallen off time to listen to the real sounds phunk. lol.
    But, come August 18th I will be doing a tour in Iraq with my crew the 35th Signal 67th Charlie company. As the motar rounds fall around me, you can believe, i will be at peace as I soothe my soul with the grand sounds that you have mixed together.
    Cruze your podcast saw me through my insane college career, my hetic hourly wage work-life, and now with your help i have started my own collection of House/Techno sounds. All this work you do will help me survive the next phase of growth. lol.

    Keep it Rock’n Cruze. I am listening!
    Huff, hooah!

  2. Sorry it took so long Joel!

    Stay safe in Iraq my friend and report back to me when you get back from your tour. I’ll get another mix online before 18th August so take it with you and enjoy!

  5. Hey Cruze,

    Though this podcast was a bit late, it was certainly worth it! I drive almost 250km from New Orleans, Louisiana to Mobile, Alabama every weekend to see my girlfriend. Your tunes keeps me grooving in the car.

    This month I really felt the inspiration through all of the horns and pianos. I was convinced that the best track on the podcast was going to be La Tromba by Lake & Lys, but Move Move had me throwing my hands in the air. This track is absolutely SICK. Great Cruze Classic as well.

    Keep pumping out the funky beats because New Orleans doesn’t have near enough House for me.

  6. wow, love this new podcast! great tunes!

    nice greets from austria!

  7. @Nicole – Thanks! Yes, we’re all good thanks. Big love to you both.

    @Finsel – Glad you like the tunes! Hopefully I’ll be back on a more regular schedule now that we don’t have to worry about moving house anymore!

    @Jules – Thanks!

  8. Hey Marc,

    just two words: awsome podcast!!!!!!

  9. Definitely some nice tracks in this round. I had to go and grab the MSTRKRFT track and Funkstar Deluxe tracks. I tried finding the Michael Jackson remix but came up empty. What label is that off of? I probably still won’t be able to find it but a google search for it just keeps pointing back to your site and some odd cyrillic ones that seem shady.

  10. the requesters- crisis – WOW

  11. I am from South Africa and am very new to your podcasts, but have to say that I am LOVING them. We don’t get awesome music like this enough on our local radio stations.

    I am going to make it my mission to get my hands on as many of your podcasts as possible.

    Thanks, and keep it up.

    Your new “fan”

  12. First question. Is this one of your own tracks Metrogroove released recently?

    Moving onto the podcast, loved it. Every track was a banger, I even liked that Michael Jackson white label at the end.

  16. Hi, funny that we should chose the same first track for our podcasts. Next one from me will be a progressive mix… meantime feel free to check out Julys’ Funky House London.

  17. Sorry for the lack of replies guys and girls. I’ve been away on holiday!

    @Nessa – Sorry, your comment went through my spam filter. Thanks for the love!

    @Nicole – Thanks!

    @Ryan – The Brothers In Rhythm remix was on a bootleg 12″ EP I bought in the mid 90s. I don’t think it was ever officially released so you might not find it.

    @Andy – Check out some more of The Requesters tracks on Beatport. They’re good!

    @Crystal Raubenheimer – Thanks for tuning in and make sure you download all of the shows if you like funky and dirty house music!

    @The Grim Reaper – Yes, that’s my track from a few years ago which is finally getting a release. I need to do some more tracks for an EP but I need to make the time!

    @Kause Sheets – Thanks! 🙂

    @Patrick – My pleasure!

    @Max – Wicked tracks as always from Haji and Axwell.

    @Utopia – Strange indeed mate. I think we have a very similar taste in music! I’m doing a progressive house mix next too. This is just getting weird! 😉
