Time for the second DJ Cruze Christmas mini-mix and what better way to work off all of the extra Christmas food that you’ve eaten than with a dirty electro mix. This mix starts off with the dirty electro Speaker Junk remix of Basement Jaxx‘s “Take Me Back To Your House”. It sound like one of the dubbier mixes that the Jaxx boys used to do of their own tunes and it sounds awesome in a club.

I’ve then stuck a tune which I originally hated but then grew to love after I heard it in a mix that someone gave me. It’s by a Dutch hip-hop collective called D.J.V.T. and it has been transformed into an 8-bit wonder by one of my favourite DJs, and ex-Wise Guy, DJ Touche. Layered with booming synth basslines and 8-bit synth stabs this works really well for my harder dancefloors. I’ve got no idea what the lyrics are though! Perhaps one of my Dutch fans can tell me.

Continuing the hip-house and Dutch theme we’ve then got Don Diablo‘s “Blow” as remixed by another hot Dutch DJ and producer Sebastien Leger. Sebastien has been on a roll this year and his dirty electro tunes rip the dancefloors up. This is followed up by another hot remix by Sebastien with his wicked acid-tinged remix of Lorraine‘s “Heaven”. Filtered electro at its best!

We’ve then got something unexpected. Yes, the dulcet tones of Mick Hucknall and Simply Red! Sweet Connection have turned this into a killer tune by minimal use of the vocals and some great building synths. This is followed by a horrible cheesy tune in its original form but Dave Moreaux has turned the Michael Jackson remake of “Billie Jean” by Starzoom into a chunky and glitchy electro tune. I’m loving this remix of it.

Finally, we’ve got a fantastic production and remix of Scissor Sisters “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing” by Paper Faces aka Mr. Stuart Price, Les Rhythmes Digitals, Jacques Lu Cont, Thin White Duke, Man With Guitar etc. A man of many guises but an excellent producer as Madonna will attest I’m sure. Using repetitive vocal snippets, great pads and a cheeky square-waved synth bassline this is a great tune to end the mix.

Tracklisting:

  1. Basement Jaxx – Take Me Back To Your House (Speaker Junk Remix) – XL Recordings
  2. D.J.V.T. – Watskeburt (Touche Instrumental Mix) – Nebula Records
  3. Don Diablo – Blow (Sebastien Leger Remix) – Salacious
  4. Lorraine – Heaven (Sebastien Leger Remix) – Waterfall Records
  5. Simply Red – Oh What A Girl (Sweet Connection Dub Mix) – SimplyRed.com
  6. Starzoom – Billie Jean (Dave Moureaux Remix) – Gusto Records
  7. Scissor Sisters – I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ (Paper Faces Mix) – Polydor

The first mix in my Christmas mini-mix series brings you a warm up mix. It’s 10pm. You haven’t left the house yet but you want some tunes to get you in the mood. What do you do? Turn on your PC (or your CD player if you’ve ripped this mix) and turn up the funky warm up mix!

Kicking off the mix is Dutch producer Mischa Daniels with his funky “Take Me Higher”. Sweden’s master producer Stonebridge remixes this and gives us a funky bassline, some mellow keys and a great start to the mix. After this we’ve got the emotive piano mix of Just Jack‘s “Starz in their Eyes” by The Trophy Twins. It takes a bit of getting used to if you’re not used to his urban poetry style (think The Streets but a bit more musical when he sings) but I’m loving this remix. Reminds me of the early 90s deep house stuff that I used to love.

I’ve then stuck in one of my tunes of the year. I’m obviously a massive fan of Raul Rincon, just check out my charts, and he has turned “Life Begins” by The Energies into an amazing piano tune. The electric pianos and reversed vocals build up the tune nicely until he drops his killer piano riff. Lovely work! I could listen to this tune on repeat all day. Well maybe not all day but at least for a couple of hours! It’s a pity his website insists on opening full screen though!

Following that we have a funky tune from some new UK producers called Kingpinz with their new track “Need You Tonight”. Some funky pads and a chunky bassline give this a place in my box. Finally, we’ve got one of the hottest production teams of 2006 – The Soul Seekerz. They’ve had a fantastic year, with what seems like hundreds of remixes, and “Party For The Weekend” tops it off nicely for them.

So there you go. The first Christmas mini-mix. Hope you enjoyed it and keep your eyes on the website for the next mix in a couple of days.

Tracklisting:

  1. Mischa Daniels – Take Me Higher (Stonebridge Mix) – Boss Records
  2. Just Jack – Starz In Their Eyes (Trophy Twins Mix) –
  3. The Energies – Life Begins (Raul Rincon Dub) –
  4. Kingpinz – Need You Tonight (Original Mix) – Cayenne Records
  5. Soul Seekerz – Party For The Weekend (Vocal Mix) – Positiva Records

As promised last week here is the b side of an old mix I did way back in 1994. You’ll find plenty of old tunes here and lots of cutting and scratch. I’ve tried to master the MP3 as best I could but it’s still a bit crackly with some heavy (i.e. distored!) bass in parts.

There are plenty of classic house tunes on here and it’ll make you smile if you’re old enough to remember them. If you’re not, then make sure you still download it as the tunes are fantastic! Here’s a vague tracklisting for you too. I’ll fill in the tune names as I remember them and feel free to post some comments below if you remember the name of the tunes before I do. Enjoy!

Tracklisting:

  1. ??? – ???
  2. Hed Boys – Girls & Boys – Seka Records – (x 2 copies – cut it up DJ!)

So as promised on podcast #19, here is an electro mix for you. I actually managed to do the mix before I got married but didn’t have time to upload it! I thought I’d do something a bit different for you this time and do a twisted electro-house mix. I’ve picked up a few dirty tracks, remixes and dubs that I thought went well together so here you go. It’s not my normal style of music as I normally play the funkier side of house music. Some of the tunes I am playing now are heading in this direction though so I’m sure you’ll love it.

The mix starts off with some fine 80s synth pop from Shena and drops into the dirty groover that is Mark Knight’s “Insatiable”. It then builds up through the massive “Easy” from Germany’s Trick & Kubik, the acid anthem that is Fedde Le Grand’s “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit” (…go on, put your hands up!) and onto the dirty bassline monster that is “Release” by clubland’s golden boy of the moment Chris Lake. Think 2am in the dirtiest club you can think of! It then heads off into dirty disco with Spiller’s “Jumbo”, tracky beats from Switch with his remix of Kelis’ “Bossy” and then through 80s vibes from Jaymo and Hauswerks, Lo-Rider and Michael Gray. We get all international at the end of the mix with the fantastic “Moonlight Party” from Italy’s Fonzerelli and then the French sounds of the Lifelike mix of Geyster’s “Under The Fuse Of Love”.

Tracklisting:

  1. Shena – Electrosexual (Main Vocal Mix) – Azuli
  2. Mark Knight feat. Katherine Ellis – Insatiable (Kami’s Dirty Crunch Remix) – Toolroom Records
  3. Trick & Kubik – Easy (Original Mix) – Data Records
  4. Fedde Le Grand – Put Your Hands Up For Detroit – C2 Records
  5. Chris Lake – Release – Rising Records
  6. Spiller – Jumbo – Nano
  7. Kelis – Bossy (Switch Remix) – Virgin
  8. Jaymo & Hauswerks – Don’t Stop (Gutterpunk Mix) – Salacious
  9. Lo-Rider – Skinny (M-Factor Club Mix) – Absolution Records
  10. Michael Gray – Borderline (Michael’s Neon Wave Vocal Mix) – Eye Industries
  11. Fonzerelli – Moonlight Party – UMM
  12. Geyster – Under The Fuse Of Love (Lifelike Remix) – Shell Records UK

I hope you enjoy this one and make sure you let me know what you think in the comments section below. Do you guys and girls want more dirty electro house as well as the funky stuff?

Today I’m celebrating my 34th birthday (yes, I’m really that old!) Well, strictly speaking I did a lot of celebrating last night and hence I have a rather sore head today. If you’re ever in the Manchester area then check out a great little cocktail bar called Socio Rehab in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. It’s an awesome, dark and dingy little bar that does fantastic cocktails. Plenty of fun was had by everyone and our wallets are a lot emptier for their London-style drinks prices!

Anyway, what better cure for a hangover than to make a funky house music mix for you guys. Hopefully I can hold the mixing together.

Tracklisting:

  1. Tony Cha Cha vs Mark Simmons – Somebody Else (Rockefella Dub) – Spinnin’
  2. Soul Avengerz – Love You Feel – Opaque Music
  3. High Life feat. Karime Kendra – Mercy On Me (Main Mix) – Onephatdeeva
  4. Kid Massive feat. Tiger Lilly – Bring It On – Blow Media

It’s in a nice CD-burnable 128kbps MP3 which has a running time of around 70 minutes. So download it, burn it to a CD and play it LOUD! Happy Birthday from me to you! πŸ˜‰

Another DJ Cruze old mix is online! It’s only from 2002 but it’s a good one (…well I like it anyway!). Apologies that I can’t remember the name of every tune that is on there. I tend to just put tunes into the mix and not remember the name of them. I’ve got far too many white labels and promos with vague titles on them but I’ll try and find out the names for you in case you want to buy them. If you know the names of the tunes that I’ve forgotten then get in touch. I hope you enjoy the mix. Yes, I have put S-Club 7 in the mix. Don’t hate me! It’s a great funky remix from Harry “Choo Choo” Romero! πŸ˜‰

I’m still having problems with my webhost so you’ll get some other mixes from the 90s really soon. As you saw from the picture of my box full of tapes I have a lot to upload for you. How about one a month? Or maybe two if you’re really lucky! Also, the podcast will be online by Wednesday 18th January too as long as the webhost issues have stopped! As I mentioned last week I have got provisions for moving it to a new host so I’ll sort that out this week and the FTP access problems should go away.
