Bacardi B-Live Radio Show

Right, I’m just about ready to head off for my flight to Frankfurt for tonight’s party at Schmidts in Wiesloch. It’s going to be a rocking party and I’ve got a box full of classic Manchester house tunes from the past 15 to 20 years for you to go CRAZY to!

Last night I managed to ring into Aga Heller’s Bacardi B-Live show and recorded a message which will be played tonight on Sunshine Live between 7pm and 8pm (I think). So check it out and then come on down to Schmidts for a night of madness!

News : Openair – Seven Nation Army (The Young Punx Remix) Free MP3

A Tribute To The White Stripes

The awesome music producer Hal Ritson from The Young Punx has just put up his remix of an unreleased cover version of The White Stripes’s “Seven Nation Army” by Openair. As you can read on his site it had some legal issues and hence got caught up in the artist development cycle which can happy at record labels and was never released. It has a funky disco vibe about it and the chanting chorus is very Basement Jaxx-esqe. Get it downloaded here and give him some thanks in the comments.

News : TR2N (Tron 2) Soundtrack To Be Scored By Daft Punk

 Saturday, March 7th 2009, 7:00 am

Back in 1982 I was a ten year old boy who was in love with computer games. One of the biggest movies of the year, well the biggest movie for a computer game obsessed boy anyway, was Tron and I can still remember my excitement when my mum and dad took me and my brother to see it. I also remember that they took a family friend, Abigail who was 11, with us and she hated it but that’s not important!

I knew they were making a sequel to with a working title of TR2N but I didn’t know anything else about. So imagine my excitement today, as a 36 year old man who loves computer games and dance music, when I found out that Daft Punk are going to score the soundtrack! How amazing are both the film and the soundtrack going to be!? Let’s hope it keeps in the same vein as Homework and Discovery and not so much like the disappointing, in my opinion, Human After All.

Found via the Earworm blog (who should have cited their sources!) I found confirmation of it on Reuters and MTV.

News : ThruYou – Kutiman Mixes YouTube Video Clips

 Friday, March 6th 2009, 5:40 pm

Kutiman - Thru You
This is possibly the best example of the “mash-up” that I’ve ever seen. Ever. EVER!

An Israeli musician Kutiman has taken lots of different YouTube videos and cut them up and mixed them together to make new tracks out of them. Although I’ve called it a mash-up it’s not a mish-mash of acapellas over original tracks in the conventional sense of a mash-up. He’s actual created 7 new tracks which you can hear over at his Thru You website. It’s just so well done you won’t actually believe that these aren’t real tracks that he’s gone into a studio and created. In case you don’t believe him he also puts links to every YouTube video that he used to make the track in the credits. What an awesome producer!

Thanks to Music Thing for the tip.

News : DJ Turntable With 5 Tone Arms

 Wednesday, March 4th 2009, 12:59 pm

Following on from yesterday’s hacked dj mixer, we’ve got a custom built turntable with 5 tone arms. It has been designed by Yuri Suzuki. Although this is more of a design project than it is a real-world turntable, I think it’s a really interesting concept to build a turntable which focuses on composing music rather than just playing it. It would be a nightmare in a club though! And in his words “this is an analogue answer for the digitalized DJ”.

Thanks to Nick for the tip.

News : Fretless Fader – Hacked DJ Mixed

 Monday, March 2nd 2009, 12:00 pm

This is a really interesting video of a hacked DJ mixer which allows pitch control via the crossfader. He’s turned the mixer into a MIDI controller so that the pitch changes as the fader slides up and down the mixer but it still allows you to cut and scratch by moving the crossfader left and right as normal. It’ll make for some really interesting scratch routines as you can see in the video. It’s really interesting to see how DJ technology has really moved forward since I first started DJing back in the mid 80s!

News : US Election Day

 Tuesday, November 4th 2008, 9:00 am

Obama Hope

I’m sure all of my American listeners and readers know full well it’s election day in the US and in our current climate of a global credit crunch I’m sure it’s going to be an interesting day for the whole world. Being from the UK I obviously can’t vote but I’m sure you can tell from the picture above who I would vote for if I could.

Anyway, what’s this got to do with music? Well, one of my favourite hip-hop scratch DJs, Z-Trip, did a fundraising party for Obama and has released his mix to the public in order to raise awareness that people should vote. So you can download the mix here. You can also check out some of the videos from the party here at Urb Magazine.

So enjoy the tunes and make sure you get out there and vote!

News : Podcast Episode #44 delay

 Sunday, October 19th 2008, 9:34 pm

Sorry about this but after having a throat infection last week I’m in no fit state to get tonight’s podcast done. I don’t think you want to hear me croaking the shout-outs!

Hopefully I’ll be feeling better tomorrow and I’ll try and get it finished by Wednesday or Thursday this week. I feel bad as I want to keep a schedule but it’ll sound terrible if I do it now!

The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy, Hey Girl (Soulwax 2 Many DJs Remix)

The Chemical Brothers - Hey Boy, Hey Girl (Soulwax 2 Many DJs Remix)

After posting about The Chemical Brothers’ “Midnight Madness” video last week I recieved a nice email from Shamara from Cornerstone Promotion who said:

Hey, I just saw that you had posted up about The Chemical Brothers. We’re
working their album here at Cornerstone, so I just wanted to make sure you had
everything. You can get a free Soulwax remix MP3 of “Hey Boy Hey Girl” via the Brother’s website. I was wondering if you’d post that link up for your
readers in your original post.

So a big thanks to Shamara for getting in touch and here’s the link to the “Soulwax 2 Many DJs Mix” of “Hey Boy, Hey Girl” by The Chemical Brothers. For FREE! Enjoy!

News : Daft Punk vs Adam Freeland – Aer OBAMA

 Saturday, September 27th 2008, 12:00 pm

Whilst reading Discobelle today I came across this wicked bootleg that the breaks producer Adam Freeland did for his set at Coachella. It’s a cheeky cut up of Daft Punk’s “Aerodynamic”, some slightly beefed up drums and a Speak N Spell computer vocal spelling out the words “Obama” and “you are correct”. I’m sure it went down a storm with the democrats at the party!

I’m not one for posting links to MP3s on my site (other than those I have done myself!) but you can get hold of it via the Discobelle site if you want to.
